Whether a role has required him to act as a generalist or a specialist, Devan Blackwell, M.A. (also know simply as Devan B.) always serves as an enthusiast for the potential of students to self-actualize and thrive, both in the classroom and in life.
Devan is an accomplished leader in the field of Education with 15+ years of demonstrated experience in the development, facilitation, monitoring, and evaluation of educational programs / initiatives that support the academic growth & cultivate the social-emotional competencies of students (grades K through 12). Additionally, he is a skilled practitioner able to provide direction, training, and specialized technical assistance on a wide range of topics gleaned through: professional experience working for a state-level government agency and teaching in at-risk, urban school populations; international study abroad; and, the strategic cultivation of collaborative partnerships with businesses, universities, private donors, and non-profit organizations.
In 2015, Devan was awarded a competitive Fellowship by the National Institute on Out-of-School Time at Wellesley College and The National Writing Project to conduct national research on methods for improving the quality of student experiences, as it relates to their physical learning spaces. In 2017, he enhanced this research endeavor by earning a Certificate in School Leadership for Social-Emotional Learning & Character Development from The Academy for Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in Schools.
As a Learning Consultant, Devan collects and analyzes relevant data to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of projects and programs for the goal of continuous quality improvement, and provides training and technical assistance that: cultivates quality program design and practice strategies; and, improves academic and social-emotional outcomes of youth.
